Pond pruning

These pond margins were overgrown, and required heavy cutting back to contain growth.

At this time of year in mid-July it is all about cutting back and containing growth.

Very little planting happens, it’s all about containment for the gardener, and restricting growth that could be otherwise invasive. In the case of these pond margins the vegetation had become invasive and was beginning to encroach on the centre of the pond. Water iris, Carex Pendula and Phragmites Australia’s (common Uk reed) can all become overwhelming, so cutting back and removing as much root as possible from the pond was essential.

A wet job but worth the effort to not only improve the aesthetics of the pond, but also preserve and contain growth for next year.
