As part of a larger Landscape Design project, this large triangular raised bed needed a planting plan to match it’s size.
A large raised bed offered plenty of opportunity for vibrant energetic planting. We wanted to include the formality of hedging to give the bed structure, so we worked with the triangular layout of the bed and formed two triangular sections, centred with Standard Roses. This gives our bed structure.
Secondly we wanted to add the looseness and informality of grasses, and this mix of grasses and long stemmed perennials such as Knautia Macedonica and Verbena will add contrast to the formal nature of the Yew and Euonymus Hedging. Low lying perennials such as Geranium, Nepeta and Alchemilla Mollis will act as good ground cover, underplanting the roses and taller grasses. We also couldn’t resist adding a tall section of Delphinium towards the front of the border, this that you can look through and admire the view into the woodland beyond.
