Drout tolerant dream

We live in the “Dry East”. Rainfall is the lowest in East Anglia across the UK, and with Climate Change happening, the approach to what we plant will need to change.

This project is a look into the future, our Climate is changing, a hotter dryer climate means that we need to prepare for different planting, plants that will thrive in a hotter, less rain dependent climate.

This project had a double pronged approach – make the most of this unused area of the garden and create an approach to the Summer House. Could we create an enclosed area around the Summer house – create a little hideaway.

Yes we could! We erected a Pergola with adjoining Trellis to help screen the Summer house off from the rest of the garden, making this area unique. We added a simple stepping stoned pathway through the centre and planted as if we were basking in Mediterranean sunshine (in February!)

Back in the Summer to see how the planting settles in and to hopefully see an array of colour and blooms.
